HCMC – Typhoon Yagi, along with widespread flooding and severe landslides in northern Vietnam, had left 327 people dead and missing as of 12:30 p.m. today, September 12, according to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority.
Of these casualties, 199 people were reported dead and 128 others missing, while 807 others were injured. Lao Cai Province is hardest hit, with 82 individuals reported dead and 95 others unaccounted for.
In Cao Bang, the death toll rose to 52, with 18 people still missing. In Yen Bai, 44 deaths were reported, and four people are missing. Quang Ninh confirmed 15 deaths, while Haiphong, Hai Duong, and Hanoi each reported one fatality. Additionally, seven people died in Hoa Binh, with other fatalities occurring across various parts of the northern region.
The typhoon and severe ensuing flooding damaged 130,268 houses, with 57,857 houses inundated. Agricultural production was severely impacted, with 195,929 hectares of rice fields and 35,010 hectares of crops flooded and damaged.
Additionally, 22,237 hectares of fruit trees were affected, and 1,791 aquaculture cages were damaged or swept away, mainly in Quang Ninh with 1,000 and Hai Duong with 300. Furthermore, 2,502 livestock and 1,523,345 poultry were lost.
There were 70 dyke incidents in 11 provinces and cities, including Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hanoi, Ha Nam, and Nam Dinh.
