HCMC – The United States is sending an additional 4.1 million doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam, a senior official of the U.S. Government said on November 23. The shipment left the United States on the same day, Tuoi Tre Online reported.

The U.S. is Vietnam’s biggest Covid vaccine donor with over 16 million doses already delivered to Vietnam. Recently, the Biden administration has stepped up vaccine donations to Vietnam, which has been struggling to respond to the latest wave of Covid infections since late April.

On November 17, the United States donated one million doses of Moderna to Vietnam, the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam said in a Facebook post.

On November 6, 1.3 million Pfizer doses donated by the U.S. through the Covax Facility arrived in Hanoi City, while another 1.2 million doses arrived in HCMC a day later.

The United States has committed to providing Vietnam with over 30.2 million vaccine doses to help the latter respond to the pandemic.

In the current fourth wave, Vietnam’s domestic infections have reached 1,110,836, sending the total case number since late last year to 1,143,967.
