HCMC – The University of Economics (UEH) HCMC on September 29 introduced the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM) to more than 20 management, education and business entities in the fields of economics, management, urbanism, transport and environment across Asia, Europe and the United States.
The event was held as part of the global event series “Shaping the Unknown Future Toward Smart City” to introduce smart city training programs in order to be well prepared for the future of technology in urban living.
Professor – Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, Chairman of UEH School Council, said, “the ISCM will become a smart city training and research institute where technology and critical thinking become powerful tools to solve urban problems for the future. Therefore, I believe that ISCM and our partners will contribute to improving the quality of education and urban life through three activities—integrated education, research and development and solving practical problems through projects.”
Dr. Trinh Tu Anh, Director of the ISCM, said that the institute aims to offer education integrated with research and real projects.
Accordingly, the institute will connect universities, stakeholders and creative students in different fields and give them the opportunity to propose solutions that contribute to solving urban problems using technology.
There are five areas of expertise at the ISCM comprising Smart Management, Smart Planning, Smart Design, Smart Traffic and Integrated Applications.
The Master of Smart City and Innovation Management program is an associate master’s program with dual degrees from KU Leuven universities, Belgium; Handong Global University, Korea, and Hasselt University, Belgium.
ISCM was established in May 2020 with its head office at 232/6 Vo Thi Sau, Ward 7, District 3, HCMC. The institute has implemented many activities connecting more than 40 leading experts and professors, leaders, universities, companies, public and non-governmental organizations around the world.
At the event, ISCM also awarded four teams as part of the first international competition, “City of the Future: Smart Design for the Post-Pandemic World”.
This post-pandemic-themed contest attracted 400 students at universities around the world to showcase their ideas for the future urban area post-pandemic.
