HCMC – Vietnam is observing two days of national mourning on April 4-5 to honor former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone, who passed away on April 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
During this period, government offices and Vietnamese embassies fly the national flag at half-mast, and public entertainment activities are suspended.
On April 3, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam led a high-ranking delegation to Laos to pay respects and meet with Lao leaders, including Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
He described Khamtay as a visionary leader and a loyal friend of Vietnam. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also sent condolences to their Lao counterparts.
