Vietnam, Hong Kong exchange MOUs on various sectors

HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Hong Kong Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu have witnessed the signing of eight memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong in various sectors.

This activity is part of the official visit to Vietnam by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lee Ka-chiu, from July 31 to August 2, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

The MOUs primarily focus on boosting cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong in sectors such as finance, trade development and investment promotion, and aviation.

Specifically, these include an MOU in finance between Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and the Financial and Treasury Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, an MOU on cooperation between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and an agreement on cooperation between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Besides, an MOU on aviation development between Vietnam Airlines and the Hong Kong Airport Authority and a cooperation agreement between Vietjet Air and the Hong Kong Airport Authority were also awarded during the ceremony.

Hong Kong is currently Vietnam’s 7th largest trade partner and the 5th largest foreign investor. Meanwhile, Vietnam is Hong Kong’s 7th largest trade partner.

In the January-July period, Hong Kong’s investment into Vietnam reached US$2.2 billion, soaring by 107% compared to the same period last year.
