HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged faster work on transport projects to ensure Vietnam will achieve its target of having 3,000 kilometers of expressway by the end of this year.
PM Chinh chaired the 17th meeting of the State steering committee for national and key transport projects this morning, May 10, reported the Government news site.
He said that recently, 80 major projects across the country have been simultaneously launched or completed. Another 80 key projects are scheduled to begin or be inaugurated to mark the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2).
The prime minister urged members of the steering committee to focus on resolving obstacles and accelerating investment preparations for key projects.
He also called for efforts to meet this year’s targets of completing 3,000 kilometers of expressway, 1,000 kilometers of coastal road, and advancing railway and road projects connecting with Laos and China.
The Government leader stressed the importance of accelerating the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong railway project, with a target to begin construction in 2025. The route is intended to connect Vietnam’s rail network with China, Central Asia, and Europe.
The steering committee is currently overseeing 37 projects comprising 95 sub-projects, including 35 in the road sector and two in aviation.
Since the committee’s establishment, many challenges and bottlenecks have been addressed. To date, 19 projects or sub-projects have been put into operation.
Notably, 16 expressway routes under the committee’s portfolio have been completed and opened to traffic, raising the country’s total expressway length from 1,163 kilometers before 2021 to 2,268 kilometers. Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport has also been put into operation.
