HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 5, confirmed 4,305 fresh Covid infections in 56 cities and provinces, up 1,217 cases against the day earlier.
Hanoi City still took the lead in new cases with 684, followed by Phu Tho with 439. Other localities detected fewer than 300 infections each.
The country’s Covid case count has neared 10.7 million, with over 9.3 million of them having recovered from the disease.
The ministry also reported two new Covid fatalities, raising the Covid death toll to 43,049.
The ministry today decided to scrap the health declaration requirement for domestic travel as all cities and provinces have brought the pandemic under control.
Besides, the country has achieved a high Covid vaccination rate, at over 96% among people aged over 12, and is vaccinating children aged 5-11, the local media reported.
Despite dropping the medical declaration requirement, relevant agencies are told to keep watch of Covid transmission and contain Covid infection clusters to protect the health of residents and maintain success in the fight against Covid, according to the ministry.
Besides, the Ministry of Health on May 4 proposed the Ministry of Education and Training allow Covid-infected students under home care and treatment to take the national high school exam, which will take place on July 7 and 8, in a voluntary manner.
