HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, March 21 confirmed 131,713 fresh Covid cases, with all but four of them being local infections in all 63 cities and provinces, down 9,440 cases against yesterday.

Among the domestic cases, Hanoi City took the lead with 17,916 infections, followed by Nghe An with 5,403 and Phu Tho with 5,348. Other localities had fewer than 5,000 infections each.

Since the start of the Covid pandemic, the country has reported over 8.08 million Covid cases, with nearly 4.3 million Covid patients having fully recovered from the disease.

The ministry also reported 69 new Covid fatalities, taking the country’s Covid death toll to 41,949.

More than 167,690 doses of Covid vaccine were administered today, raising the total number of doses given to people nationwide to over 201.8 million.

In related news, the Mekong Delta province of An Giang has set a target of completing the administering of the third Covid vaccine shot to adults in the first quarter of the year.

Due to the complicated development of Covid, the vaccine is a key tool to reduce the Covid death rate and the number of critical Covid patients, according to the provincial government.

As such, the province is speeding up the vaccination of adults and has mapped out a detailed plan to give the vaccine to children aged between five and 12.

As of March 20, over 99% of An Giang Province’s adults had got one shot of the Covid vaccine, while the province had got 97.9% of adults fully vaccinated and seen 52.6% of them receive a booster dose.

Over 96% of the province’s children aged between 12 and 17 have got two shots of the Covid vaccine, the local media reported.
