HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 3 confirmed 50,730 fresh Covid cases in 61 cities and provinces, down by a staggering 14,886 cases against the day earlier.
Hanoi City still recorded the highest number of new cases, at 6,304, while Yen Bai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho and Lao Cai detected around 2,034-2,604 cases each.
The health authorities of Thai Binh and Bac Giang today registered to add 40,000 and 11,316 cases to the national Covid monitoring system, respectively.
More than 74,600 Covid patients were announced to have recovered from the disease, taking the total recoveries to nearly 7.8 million.
The ministry also reported 37 new Covid deaths, raising the coronavirus death toll to 42,600.
So far Vietnam has reported a combined 9.8 million Covid cases.
In related news, over 3,000 people aged over 65 and those with underlying illnesses in HCMC are yet to be vaccinated against Covid.
Between March 8 and 31, the city carried out a campaign to protect vulnerable groups of people aged over 65 and having underlying health conditions to reduce the Covid death rate, according to the municipal Department of Health.
Since the campaign started on December 8 last year, the city has found some 440,500 vulnerable people and put them on a list of those receiving care and close health monitoring.
Among 344,900 vulnerable people undergoing a Covid test, over 5,950 tested positive for the disease.
As many as 5,287 of the total positive cases in the group have recovered from Covid, the local media reported.
