HCMC – More than 100 representatives from industry associations, export firms, legal and economic experts, are set to gather on March 27 at a seminar titled “New U.S. Tariff Policies and Vietnam’s Response” to discuss strategies for adapting to evolving trade dynamics.
The seminar, jointly organized by Saigon Times Group and HM&P law firm, will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Royal Hotel Saigon, 133 Nguyen Hue Boulevard, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, HCMC.
It comes as the United States plans to impose new tariffs and trade measures on a wide range of imports, affecting multiple countries and territories, including Vietnam.
Experts warn that these policy shifts not only create immediate trade barriers but also signal a broader trend in the restructuring of global trade. Vietnamese enterprises are being urged to adopt proactive and flexible strategies to protect their commercial interests amid growing uncertainties.
At the seminar, experts and business leaders will analyze key changes in U.S. trade policy, assess their potential impact on Vietnam’s economy, and offer recommendations to help local firms adapt, capitalize on free trade agreements (FTAs), and refine their business strategies.
Dr. Can Van Luc, chief economist of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), president of the BIDV Training and Research Institute, will present an in-depth analysis of how the new U.S. tariff landscape could impact Vietnam’s economy, highlighting both risks and potential opportunities arising from the shifting trade dynamics.
Nguyen Nam Tran, head of the Business Assurance Business Unit at SGS Vietnam, will follow with insights into common challenges faced by Vietnamese exporters entering the U.S. market, particularly in meeting certification and inspection requirements.
A panel discussion under the same title as the seminar will follow the presentations.
Moderated by Nguyen Van Phuc, managing partner at HM&P law firm, the panel discussion will feature key voices including Dr. Can Van Luc; Nguyen Huu Nam, deputy director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) – HCMC Regional Branch; Dr. Pham Van Dai, senior researcher, Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management; and Le Duc Nghia, chairman of the Board of Directors of An Cuong Wood – Working JSC.
The seminar aims not only to provide crucial policy updates but also to serve as a platform for businesses to network and engage directly with experts and export support organizations.
Topics such as strategies for navigating tariff barriers, integrating technology into supply chains, and optimizing production costs will also be openly discussed to help businesses shape strategies in line with the changing global trade landscape.
