HCMC — Vietnamese users spent a total of 283 million hours on artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the first half of this year, averaging nearly 1.6 million hours per day, according to Sensor Tower’s State of AI Report 2025.

The report said downloads, usage time, and spending on generative AI apps surged globally, with Asia—especially Vietnam—among the fastest-growing regions.

Vietnamese users recorded 7.5 billion sessions on AI apps through iOS and Android platforms in the first six months of the year, equivalent to 41 million sessions and 1.6 million usage hours per day.

AI usage in Vietnam has risen sharply, from 36.2 million hours in early 2024 to 101 million hours in late 2024, and 283 million hours so far this year. With a population of about 100 million, each user spent an average of 2.8 hours and 75 sessions on AI apps during the period.

A locally developed app, AI Hay, ranked third among the most downloaded AI platforms, behind ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, and placed second in monthly active users after ChatGPT.

Vietnamese users spent US$7.49 million on generative AI apps in the first half of 2025, the highest level on record. No local app entered the top 10 by revenue, as most domestic developers continue offering free or low-cost services to expand user bases.

According to an April report by the National Innovation Center, Vietnam accounted for 27% of ASEAN’s generative AI startups in 2024, attracting US$780 million in funding, second only to Singapore. The sector is expected to contribute US$120–130 billion to Vietnam’s economy by 2040.
