HCMC – Vietnamese workers last year enjoyed a 6.9% increase in their monthly income to VND7.1 million compared to the previous year, according to a report by the General Statistics Office.

The report said that male workers earned an average of VND8.1 million per month while female workers earned VND6 million in 2023.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, workers saw their monthly incomes edging up to VND7.3 million, a VND180,000 increase compared to the third quarter of the same year. The report attributed this growth to increased order placements during the final months of the year.

Workers across all economic sectors enjoyed a pay rise in the fourth quarter of 2023, with the Red River Delta region experiencing the steepest increase with an average monthly income of VND8.7 million, a 3.5% increase. In contrast, the southeastern region reported the lowest rise of 2.3% in the final quarter of the year, but workers there still earned an average of VND9 million per month.

While some localities with industrial parks and processing zones, such as Dong Nai Province and HCMC, saw a modest increase in average income compared to the same period in 2022, others like Binh Duong and Vung Tau saw huge increases, ranging from 6.4% to 12.8%.
