Vietnam’s 2023 foreign trade put at US$681 billion

HCMC – Vietnam put its 2023 foreign trade at over US$681 billion, 6.9% lower than in the previous year, according to the General Statistics Office.

Vietnam gained US$354.67 billion from exports last year, a 4.6% year-on-year decline, while its import spending edged down by 9.2% over the previous year to US$326 billion, resulting a trade surplus of US$28.3 billion.

Foreign-invested businesses contributed significantly, with their imports and exports amounting to over US$466 billion, down by 8% compared to the previous year. Their export value surpassed US$257 billion, down 6%, while their imports reached more than US$209 billion, shrinking by 10.3% year-on-year.

The import-export turnover of domestic businesses amounted to over US$214 billion in 2023, down by 4.3% against the previous year. Exports from domestic businesses reached US$97.46 billion, declining by 0.7%, while imports totaled more than US$117 billion, dropping by 7.2%.
