HCMC – Nhon Trach 3 power plant in Dong Nai Province will connect to the national grid for the first time on February 1, following a successful no-load test at 3,000 revolutions per minute on January 29, project investor PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) said.
The US$1.4 billion plant is the country’s first to use liquefied natural gas (LNG). It features high-efficiency gas turbines and is expected to contribute to Vietnam’s electricity supply amid rising demand.
The project is more than 95% complete, according to PV Power. Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants will have a combined capacity of 1,500–1,600 megawatts and are scheduled for commercial operation by June. Once fully operational, they will provide about nine billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year to the national grid.
Vietnam has prioritized energy infrastructure development to meet growing electricity demand. The Government has instructed developers to expedite the construction of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 as part of efforts to ensure power supply in the 2025–2030 period.
