Guided by the philosophy of “leaving no one behind,” the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) has long pursued a wide range of community-oriented programs—from providing life-saving heart surgeries to underprivileged children, to building homes for low-income families, and offering free medical check-ups to those in need.
Over 8,000 children given a second lease on life
On April 26–27, as Vietnam marked the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation, Viettel Quang Ngai partnered with the Vietnamese Hearts Fund and Hue Central Hospital to provide free heart screenings for 1,800 children in Quang Ngai Province. The initiative identified 48 children with congenital heart disease requiring surgery. All of them will receive full financial support for treatment, with the total cost estimated at over VND2 billion.
This marked the first time the “Heart for Children” program has reached Quang Ngai, offering early diagnosis and care for children in a province still facing economic challenges. The program will next head to Hung Yen Province in May.
In March, the same program screened children in Binh Phuoc Province at Binh Dinh General Hospital. “Heart for Children” is a joint initiative by Viettel and the Vietnamese Hearts Fund (run by Vietnam Television), offering free heart surgeries for disadvantaged children under 18, while also investing in healthcare capacity and organizing screening events across the country.
Since its launch nearly 17 years ago, the program has funded surgeries for more than 7,600 children, supported over 40 hospitals and cardiac centers, and provided free heart screenings for more than 174,000 children across 52 provinces. With each surgery costing approximately VND40 million, the program removes an enormous financial burden from families in need.
Viettel’s nationwide network of nearly 1,000 stores also serves as a convenient access point for application submissions. Local staff assist families with paperwork, helping to shorten wait time and reduce travel cost.
Free healthcare and financial support
In February, Viettel Money partnered with the Ministry of Health to provide free medical care and essential gifts to residents of Tan Long Commune, Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province. This initiative marked the launch of Viettel Money’s 2025 corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign.

A mobile medical unit visited remote areas to deliver free check-ups, treatment consultations, and medications to hundreds of poor, elderly, and underserved children. The program was carried out by healthcare professionals from the Vietnam Young Physicians Association.
Viettel Money also distributed 500 gift packages containing food and daily essentials, 50 blood pressure monitors, and financial aid worth VND2 million each to 10 especially disadvantaged households.
In recent years, Viettel Money has launched numerous other CSR projects, including scholarships for students and the construction of schools and libraries that meet international standards.
Viettel is one of the few companies with a long-standing strategic partnership with the healthcare sector. In early 2025, Viettel Digital Services Corporation (Viettel Digital) joined hands with the Ministry of Health and the Vietnam Young Physicians Association to roll out healthcare and financial support programs in nine provinces: Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Thai Nguyen, Binh Dinh, Son La, Lam Dong, Hai Duong, Cao Bang, and Thua Thien-Hue—regions with large ethnic minority populations and limited access to healthcare services.
Investing in education and research
At the end of 2024, Viettel sponsored the development of a 5G/6G research laboratory at Hanoi University of Science and Technology to facilitate foundational research into next-generation network technologies. During the sponsorship event, Viettel also awarded nine Viettel Research Excellence Scholarships (VES) to young graduate researchers in science and technology. Hanoi University of Science and Technology was the first institution to implement this scholarship program.
Previously, in 2023, eight master’s students from the same university received similar scholarships.
These investments reflect Viettel’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Vietnam’s high-tech workforce and promoting collaboration between academia and industry. To date, Viettel and Hanoi University of Science and Technology have co-published 25 scientific papers.
Disaster relief and housing support
Viettel also plays a key role in disaster relief. In September 2024, after Typhoon Yagi devastated multiple northern provinces, the company provided around VND100 billion in aid. This included a VND20 billion contribution to the Ministry of National Defense’s disaster relief fund and VND80 billion worth of services offered directly to affected residents. Viettel credited accounts of more than two million affected customers and helped establish emergency communications systems in hard-hit areas to assist local communities and rescue operations.
In March 2025, during a visit by Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang to Tuyen Quang Province, Viettel was tasked with funding the construction of 500 houses for impoverished households living in makeshift or deteriorating shelters.
Prior to this initiative, Viettel had already supported the construction of homes for low-income families across several provinces. In Ha Tinh’s Huong Son District, for example, the company funded the construction of 45 “solidarity houses,” each worth VND50 million, with a total investment of VND2.25 billion.
In Kon Tum Province, Viettel has also committed VND10 billion to a housing initiative in 2024 and 2025, in collaboration with provincial authorities and local agencies, to eliminate temporary and unsafe housing for low-income families.
