Vingroup proposes sea-crossing bridge linking Can Gio and Vung Tau

HCMC – Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has written to the HCMC government seeking permission to conduct a study for a sea-crossing bridge connecting Can Gio and Vung Tau under the build-transfer (BT) model.

If the project translates into reality, there would be a new overland route for people to travel from the former HCMC area to the beach area of Vung Tau. Traffic congestion is a common sight on the current route connecting downtown HCMC and Vung Tau, especially on weekends and holidays.

In its proposal, the nation’s largest private conglomerate stated that on June 11, the prime minister issued Decision 1125/QD-TTg approving the Revised Master Plan for HCMC to 2040, with a vision to 2060, which prioritizes the development of modern infrastructure and intra- and inter-regional connectivity as key strategic orientations.

Following the merger of Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Duong provinces into HCMC, the need for a direct coastal connection has become increasingly urgent. Can Gio and Vung Tau are of strategic importance for marine economy, seaports, tourism, and ecological urban development, yet their current infrastructure remains limited.

The construction of a sea-crossing bridge would help shorten travel time, improve connectivity between functional zones of the city, and stimulate economic, social, commercial, and sustainable urban expansion.

Vingroup is committed to long-term collaboration to enhance regional connectivity and promote sustainable development along HCMC’s coastal areas.

According to Vingroup, travelers from downtown HCMC who want to go to Vung Tau through Can Gio are required to take a ferry. Therefore, the proposed sea-crossing bridge would make it more convenient and faster to travel between Can Gio and Vung Tau.

In Can Gio, Vingroup is working on a 2,870-hectare modern coastal urban and tourism project, around 50 kilometers southeast of downtown HCMC.

Designed to accommodate a population of nearly 230,000 and attract 8-9 million tourists annually, the Vinhomes Green Paradise project will transform the area into a hub for eco-friendly tourism, smart urban living, and high-tech services.
