HCMC – A 52-year-old woman was dead in HCMC’s District 5 on Wednesday after she was struck by a falling tree during a wind gust, local media reported.
The incident occurred at the Huynh Man Dat-An Duong Vuong intersection on September 4, when the woman was riding her motorbike amidst heavy rain and strong winds. She was rushed to Cho Ray Hospital in critical condition but died despite emergency treatment.
The wind gust caused many trees to fall across the city. No other incidents were reported, according to local authorities.
The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center attributed the weather phenomenon to a tropical convergence zone connected to Storm Yagi, which has been affecting northern and central Vietnam’s weather patterns.
More downpours are forecast, with winds expected to reach levels five to eight.
