HCMC – Work on the Nhon Trach bridge project linking HCMC and the neighboring province of Dong Nai, part of the Ring Road No. 3 project, will start next year to reduce pressure on the Dong Nai Bridge.
According to the Cuu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure, under the Ministry of Transport, the design of the project is being accelerated.
The six-lane bridge was designed to cross the Dong Nai River and have a length of more than 2,200 meters and a width of 19.5 meters. The project requires an investment of VND2.2 trillion.
According to the Ministry of Transport’s plan, the bridge is expected to be completed in 2024.
The Tan Van-Nhon Trach section of the Ring Road No. 3 project, which includes the Nhon Trach bridge, is 8.75 kilometers long. The section will start at an intersection with provincial road 25B in Nhon Trach District of Dong Nai Province and end at the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway in HCMC. The total investment in the project is estimated at over VND5.3 trillion, which will be sourced from South Korea’s official development assistance loans and the State budget.
As planned, a contractor providing technical consultancy for the project will be chosen in October this year. In March next year, the contractor will complete the technical design.
Ring Road No. 3 was designed as an expressway with a total length of 90 kilometers, which will allow a maximum speed of 100 kilometers an hour.
The road will start at the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway in Nhon Trach, run through HCMC, Binh Duong and Long An and end in Ben Luc.
The project is divided into four sections. The first, which will connect Nhon Trach and Tan Van in Dong Nai Province and be 34.3 kilometers long, has been approved by the Ministry of Transport. Work on the section was originally planned to begin in 2016 but has been delayed.
The second section, Tan Van-Binh Chuan, is 16.7 kilometers long and has been opened to traffic.
The third section stretching from Binh Chuan in Binh Duong Province to National Highway 22 in HCMC has a length of 19 kilometers.
The last section, 28 kilometers, connects National Highway 22 and Long An’s Ben Luc District.
The cost of the project was at VND55.8 trillion when the planning for the road was announced in 2011, with the cost for overpasses excluded. The capital would be sourced from the State budget, Government bond sales and ODA loans.
