HCMC – On the evening of April 28, HCMC conducted a full rehearsal for an artistic light show featuring 10,500 drones, marking the largest display of its kind ever in the city.
The event, a full rehearsal for the main drone performance scheduled for May 1, took place at Bach Dang Wharf in District 1. It is one of the highlights of the “Colors of the City named after Uncle Ho Chi Minh” program, organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025).
Following the full rehearsal, the official performance is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on May 1. The organizers plan to submit a proposal for recognition of a Vietnam record for the biggest number of drones flying simultaneously.
As of October 2024, the Guinness World Record for the largest number of drones controlled by a single computer, and for the largest aerial image created by drones, was set in China with 10,200 drones.

As part of the “Colors of the City named after Uncle Ho Chi Minh” program, a series of activities will be held at various venues, including the HCMC People’s Council and People’s Committee headquarters, Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, the HCMC Opera House, Bach Dang Wharf, Thu Duc City Park, and the Saigon River.
Additional activities on the Saigon River will include traditional “đờn ca tài tử” performances, floating flower parade, tourist boat parade, and various water sports demonstrations such as sailing, jetpack water flight shows, flyboard surfing, paddleboarding, and paragliding, alongside a performing arts show at the floating stage near Bach Dang Wharf.
