HCMC – The Ministry of Health has confirmed 18 more Covid-19 cases, including two imported cases in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Danang and 16 community-transmitted ones at quarantine centers, sending the country’s tally to 3,854 as of 12.00 p.m. today, May 15.

Among the latest locally-infected cases, Bac Giang reported nine cases, while Dien Bien and Hanoi City confirmed two each. One each was reported in Bac Ninh, Ha Nam and Hung Yen.

Since April 27, the country has reported 823 community-transmitted Covid-19 cases.

The number of Covid-19 infections might continue to rise, but the source of transmission was identified as coming from the current coronavirus hotspots, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long told a working meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 15.

The new Covid-19 cases had been quarantined before testing positive for Covid-19 as they came into close contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients, Long said.

Long also said that Vietnam might continue to detect more coronavirus infection clusters in some localities, mainly those being crowded with tourists on the holidays of April 30 and May 1.

The country’s capacity of Covid-19 testing reaches some 66,000 samples per day and can be raised to up to 290,000 samples each day, he said.

In related news, 200 doctors and medical workers at Vietnam–Sweden Hospital in Uong Bi City in Quang Ninh Province traveled to Bac Giang Province this morning to support the province in the fight against Covid-19. On May 14, the Bac Giang government asked Quang Ninh for help with Covid-19 testing for all workers in the province.
