HCMC – One week after they resumed in-person instruction for 9th and 12th graders, HCMC schools reported 34 positive Covid-19 cases, with 27 of them students and the remainder teachers and school employees.

Trinh Duy Trong, head of the political and ideological division under the HCMC Department of Education and Training, was speaking at a press briefing held by the city’s anti-Covid steering committee on December 20.

The schools, which detected positive cases, had handled the cases in line with the anti-pandemic directives, he said.

The number of cases at schools was in line with the expectations of schools, Trong said, adding that schools had taken the required steps to handle infection cases while maintaining learning and teaching operations.

Trong also encouraged teachers and students to quickly adapt to a new learning environment, in which classes are divided into smaller ones to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Parents can proactively conduct rapid Covid tests for their children to minimize Covid transmission in schools, he said, adding that if students test positive, they will stay at home, the local media reported.
