HCMC – As many as 375 workers in the northern province of Bac Giang, the largest pandemic hotspot in the country, have been confirmed as positive for Covid-19 today, a special team of the Ministry of Health in the province announced.

These cases were detected after the Ministry of Health, the Bac Giang authorities and healthcare agencies coordinated to conduct Covid-19 tests at industrial parks, factories and worker dorms in the province over the past three days, the local media reported.

All of these patients live in the areas on lockdown in line with the prime minister’s Directive 16.

According to Dr Tran Nhu Duong, deputy head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the infection sources were from factories in industrial parks and housing facilities as these places usually have many people, while the Covid-19 variants are more transmissible.

The Ministry of Health has asked the special team in Bac Giang to immediately lock down all worker dorms, consider them as centralized quarantine centers and frequently sterilize them. Those inside these facilities are not allowed to leave and must undergo periodic tests.

The Ministry of Health is holding an urgent meeting with the special team and the Bac Giang Department of Health.

As of this afternoon, May 25, Bac Giang reported 1,156 Covid-19 cases, exclusive of the 375 new cases, making up more than half of the total cases in the country in the current fourth Covid-19 wave.
