HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 13, reported 2,227 fresh Covid cases, dropping by 1,723 against the day earlier.
Hanoi City recorded the highest number of new infections at 495, followed by Nghe An with 123, Phu Tho with 120 and Daklak with 114. Other provinces and cities detected fewer than 100 cases each.
The health authority of Bac Giang registered to add 443 cases detected earlier to the national Covid monitoring system.
The country’s Covid caseload has climbed to near 10.7 million so far, with more than 9.3 million of them having recovered.
The coronavirus death toll stands at 43,063, with no new deaths reported today.
The ministry has proposed halting the pre-entry Covid testing requirement for those flying to Vietnam from abroad, said Professor Dr. Phan Trong Lan, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine.
The proposal came as the country has achieved a very high vaccination rate and is adopting the Government’s Resolution 128 on safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling Covid-19, the local media reported.
Lan said that the ministry was gathering feedback on the proposal from the International Air Transport Association, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and other relevant agencies. All of them threw their support behind the suspension of the pre-entry Covid testing requirement.
The ministry dropped the on-arrival health declaration requirement at airports and other international border gates on April 27 and scrapped the medical declaration rule for domestic travel on April 30 as infections and deaths have fallen to new lows.
