HCMC – Vietnamese employees in the public sector will have five days off during the National Day holiday, running from August 29 to September 2.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Day holiday officially includes September 1 and 2. Due to a working-day swap, the break will run for five consecutive days from August 29 to September 2, covering the weekend from Saturday to Wednesday. The schedule applies to public officials and civil servants, while enterprises are encouraged to adopt the same arrangement.

The ministry has requested agencies and units to assign staff on duty during the holiday and ensure continuous handling of work, including unexpected tasks. Ministries, agencies and localities are also asked to implement measures to support production and business activities, maintain supply-demand balance, and stabilize prices and markets before, during and after the holiday.

Units that do not follow a fixed Saturday-Sunday weekend are required to arrange their holiday schedules based on operational plans in compliance with regulations.

Under the Labor Code, employees are entitled to 11 days of paid public holidays annually, including New Year’s Day, Lunar New Year (five days), Reunification Day (April 30), International Labor Day (May 1), National Day (two days), and Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary.

A resolution passed by the 15th National Assembly, effective July 1, 2026, designates November 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, granting employees an additional paid day off. As a result, the total number of paid public holidays in 2026 will increase to 12 days.
