HCMC – A photo exhibition of 14 Vietnamese students who returned from France was held yesterday afternoon, June 21, by the French Consulate General in HCMC.
Their photos are displayed on the wall of the residence of the Consul General of France in HCMC aimed at honoring the Vietnamese who studied in France and pursued a career in Vietnam.
This is the 4th season of exhibitions hosted by Campus France, the French Institute and Consulate General of France in HCMC, in partnership with the France Alumni Vietnam Network (Network of Vietnamese graduates in France).
The 14 students were also present, including the first Vietnamese woman to conquer Everest, the highest peak in the world at almost 9 km above sea level, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha.
During the ceremony, Thanh Nha said we must always pursue our dreams, one way or another. And that her experience could serve as a good example to others in chasing their dreams.
Thanh Nha, a lawyer in HCMC, studied at Sorbonne University in Paris in the past.
At the ceremony, the Consul General of France, Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser, also unveiled 63 scholarships granted to Vietnamese students, including 17 for the southern region of Vietnam, to pursue their studies in France.
She said that France is currently hosting some 6,000 Vietnamese students. She added that the population of foreign students in France is some 360,000 people.
According to her, a Vietnamese student from France who has learned to understand France will have an advantage in Vietnam, as he or she will strengthen the existing friendly relations between Vietnam and France and sustain and help open new bilateral cooperation areas.
Pavillon-Grosser said that she would make efforts to ensure more and more young Vietnamese study in France and French students come to Vietnam.
Tuition fees at French public universities are paid for by the State, even for foreign students. They only pay a fee of 10,000 to 14,000 euros per year.
Amid the Covid 19 pandemic in France, in January 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that student canteens would be serving lunch and dinner at only 1 euro per meal. This will help them cope with the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis. Until that date, the one-euro meal was only offered to scholarship students once a day.
