HCMC – The border guards in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang in coordination with the relevant agencies are probing a wildlife trafficking ring after seizing 94 wild animals en route from neighboring Cambodia to Vietnam.
At around 2:10 a.m. on July 24, a team of border guards discovered three people suspiciously unloading commodities from a small boat to the shore of a Hau River section, which runs through the province’s An Phu District.
Having seen the border guards, the three immediately took flight, leaving behind one gasoline engine and the small boat.
The forces then discovered 10 cartons on the boat and three sacks placed on the riverside. They found 52 iguanas and 42 tortoises weighing almost 335 kilograms in total inside the cartons and sacks.
The forces handed over the items to the An Giang Forest Protection Department for a further investigation.
