HCMC – The Department of Construction of Danang City has proposed relocating the planned North-South high-speed railway passenger station to a site near National Highway 14B and the Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway, about five kilometers southeast of the currently planned location.
The proposal, submitted to the Danang People’s Committee, would move the station from Hoa Khanh Ward to a transport hub area where National Highways 14B and 14G connect with the North-South expressway network.
According to the department, the new location would strengthen regional transport links, shorten travel times to border gates and western areas, and improve connections with Quang Ngai Province and other central coastal localities.
The site is also closer to the Danang International Airport. The department said the area could support the development of office complexes, convention facilities and hotels serving business travelers and professionals.
The department noted that the proposed location has sufficient land for high-density, mixed-use urban development within an 800-1,000-meter radius of the station. The plan is intended to improve land-use efficiency, generate resources for infrastructure investment and create new development space in western Danang.
The department attributed the proposal to changes in the city’s development framework following the merger of Danang and Quang Nam. Before the merger, the station was planned north of Hoang Van Thai Street in Hoa Khanh Ward to support the existing urban area.
After the merger, the city’s urban and economic development space expanded significantly, creating additional land resources and opportunities for transit-oriented development, the department said.
The National Assembly approved the North-South high-speed railway project in principle under Resolution No. 172/2024/QH15 on November 30, 2024.
The 1,541-kilometer railway will pass through 15 provinces and centrally governed cities after administrative restructuring. The line is designed for speeds of up to 350 kph, with operating speeds of 320 kph, and will feature 23 passenger stations and five freight stations.
The section crossing Danang will stretch about 116.42 kilometers through 24 wards and communes.
Under previous plans, Danang was expected to have three high-speed rail stations: passenger stations in Hoa Khanh Ward and Chien Dan Commune, and a freight station in Tam My Commune.
