Trung Luong-My Thuan Expy toll collection begins

By Trung Chanh

Must read

CAN THO – The operator of the 51-kilometer Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway began early today to collect toll fees from vehicles using the road in the Mekong Delta.

Vehicles without an electronic toll collection (ETC) tag could borrow a temporary one and return it when they exit the expressway.

Road users can buy the e-tag for VND120,000.

Many salvage vehicles were deployed at the first toll station of the expressway in Chau Thanh, Tien Giang Province to promptly address issues.

The provincial government had earlier announced lowering toll fees for the road compared to the previously proposed levels.

Cars with under 12 seats, trucks below two tons and public buses are charged VND103,000 for the entire route.

The fee for the entire route for passenger vehicles with 12-30 seats and trucks weighing two to four tons is VND154,000.

Passenger coaches with 31 seats or above and trucks below 10 tons pay VND180,000 for the entire route, while trucks weighing 10-18 tons are charged VND231,700.

The toll fee charged for trucks weighing 18 tons and above and 40-foot container vehicles is VND334,700.

Tran Van Bon, director of the Tien Giang Department of Transport, said the fee cuts were due to the growing traffic volume in the expressway.

The VND12,000-billion Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway, which has been in operation since April, allows for a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

The road helps reduce the pressure on National Highway 1 and cut the time traveling between HCMC and My Thuan by half.

Some 2.2 million vehicles have used the expressway after three months of operation, with an average of over 26,000 vehicles per day.
