HCMC – The management of Tu Du Hospital has strived to find out the reasons and come up with solutions to their patients’ personal data leaks.
The hospital has received some complaints from many women about the leakage of their data after they received pregnancy and birth care treatment there, the deputy director of the hospital, Tran Ngoc Hai, told the media on August 24.
Their personal data might have been leaked through the healthcare delivery system and the services of healthcare call centers, such as texting or phoning the patients, the hospital said.
There might be loopholes in the non-cash payment system connected to the banks. However, the hospital has yet to detect any signs of being hacked, it added.
Additionally, it said the patients might have leaked their data themselves, such as revealing their phone numbers for sales promotions, or the information leakage may have also come from its staff.
The management board has reinforced the management of data security and applied decentralized access control. The board or staff are only allowed to access the information they are responsible for.
At the same time, the hospital’s system is equipped with a firewall and security software to avoid being hacked from outside.
The hospital will find ways to raise patients’ awareness of data protection. Medical students at the hospital are also forbidden to take photos and film videos of the records.
