HCMC – The Ministry of Health has announced that 8.4 million doses of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines would be shipped to Vietnam next month as it targets to have 90% of the population getting the third shots.
According to the ministry, Vietnam will distribute 7.8 million doses for people from 12. Of them, 1.2 million Pfizer doses are allocated under COVAX, 4.2 million Pfizer doses from the Australian Government backed by UNICEF, and 2.36 million AstraZeneca doses from VNVC.
At the same time, another 600,000 doses under COVAX and ASEAN will be delivered to Vietnam to vaccinate children 5 to 11.
The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology reported that 255,132, 271 doses had been administered in Vietnam.
As for people at age 18 and above, all of them have got the first two primary doses while 75.6% have received the third shot, and 70% have been given the fourth shot.
Around 80% of children 5 to 11 have been administered the first dose and 40%-51% have got the second dose in some areas.
However, the demand for Covid-19 vaccination is waning.
Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, deputy minister of Health, urged local hospitals and health centers team up with the Department of Education and Training to accelerate the administration of the primary doses for children 5 to 11 from August to September.
All children aged 12 to 17 are expected to get vaccine boosters the third quarter of 2022.
After over four months of implementation, 9.12 million children 5 to 11 have got the first shot and 5.8 million of them have received the second shot.
