HCMC – A waterway ferry service connecting HCMC and the neighboring province of Tien Giang is expected to operate by the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday, according to the HCMC Department of Transport.
The city’s outlying district of Can Gio has recommended working with Tien Giang’s counterparts to open a sea ferry service to Go Cong Dong District in the Mekong Delta province, the local media reported.
The waterway will help ease traffic congestion and shorten the distance between Can Gio and Go Cong Dong by 100 km, according to the project investor, Quoc Chanh One Member Limited Liability Company.
The favorable natural conditions of the area allow for the operation of ferry service all year round.
The firm has got several ferries and personnel ready. What remains is the completion of administrative procedures for the construction of passenger terminals, wharves and ticket cabins.
The route will have two ferries operating regularly, with each capable of carrying 20-30 automobiles and about 200 passengers.
Can Gio has three waterway routes to HCMC’s Nha Be District and the southern provinces of Long An and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
