Lazada Vietnam dedicated to supporting community

While striving to reach its business targets, the giant ecommerce platform Lazada has tapped its resources to support the communities where it operates, including Vietnam.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of Lazada Vietnam are diverse. However, it has paid much attention to the development of the local ecommerce sector, so its CSR activities also aim for this target.

Supporting local manpower development

To encourage the learning spirit among students, Lazada Vietnam conducted the Lazada Forward Scholarship program, awarding scholarships to 25 excellent students of many universities across the country between March and July this year. Each scholarship is worth US$1,500.

In addition, Lazada Vietnam carried out the LazPrentice program in the first half of the year. Accordingly, 53 among the 2,000 students registering for the program were chosen to become apprentices of Lazada.

The firm has also cooperated with several universities to hold workshops on ecommerce for students and new traders, and supported the Vietnam E-Commerce Association to make the Vietnam ecommerce training report 2022 and organize the “Training ecommerce at universities in 2022-new network, new strength” events to improve the training quality of the sector.

In addition, Lazada has initiated the “Donate the dream books” campaign with the collaboration of Fahasa, Alpha Books, Deli and WeChoice. Through the campaign, Lazada Vietnam and its partners have presented more than 20,000 books, 2,000 notebooks, 11,000 sets of learning tools and 200 school bags to 10 primary and secondary schools in Dong Ha City and Gio Linh District of Quang Tri Province.

Improving Vietnamese firms’ digital transformation capability

In 2021-2022, Lazada Vietnam joined hands with the Vietnam Ecommerce and Digital Economy Agency and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam E-Commerce Association and the Departments of Industry and Trade of localities nationwide to support local enterprises in trading on its platform.

In specifics, Lazada Vietnam and the Vietnam E-Commerce Association held training courses to improve the digital transformation capability for thousands of small and medium enterprises in Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Son La, Haiphong and Thanh Hoa provinces.

Furthermore, Lazada Vietnam has coordinated with the Vietnam Ecommerce and Digital Economy Agency and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency to organize training courses for traders, and signed agreements with the Departments of Industry and Trade of Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh and Thua Thien-Hue provinces to support small and medium enterprises and agricultural firms in these localities.

The ecommerce platform has also got involved in a project sponsored by the Australian Government to promote gender equality through improving the economic efficiency in agricultural production and tourism development in Lao Cai and Son La provinces.

Through the project, Lazada helped improve the digital transformation capability and support the trading on the ecommerce platform for enterprises in the northern mountainous area.

Supporting the pandemic fight

The period from early 2020 to early 2022 was the most difficult time for State agencies, enterprises, organizations and individuals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They have later redoubled their efforts to recover and develop the economy in the new normal.

As Lazada considers sharing difficulties with the community its responsibility, the firm conducted multiple CSR activities during the pandemic.

In March 2020, the firm donated 100,000 medical face masks and two negative pressure isolation rooms through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCMC to join forces with the Government and agencies to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

A month later, Lazada Vietnam initiated the “joining hands to fight Covid-19” program in which donations were made online through the Lazada ecommerce platform to support frontline workers.

In June last year, to support Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces which were pandemic hotspots at the time, Lazada presented more than 100,000 milk boxes and 45,000 alkaline ionized water bottles worth VND1 billion to the two provinces.

Also in mid-2021, Lazada cooperated with the Hope Foundation, a private charity foundation, to conduct the “Be Strong Vietnam – jointly overcoming the pandemic” program. In this program, Lazada’s customers used their coins on Lazada to exchange for donations valued at VND10,000, VND20,000 or VND50,000.

Through the Hope Foundation, the donations were later sent to frontline medical workers in the fight against the pandemic.

In July last year, Lazada made a donation to buy 30,000 Covid-19 test kits valued at VND3 billion for HCMC.

The ecommerce platform also held out its arms to residents during the pandemic by offering free delivery services and preferential policies for food products.

In specifics, in June last year, Lazada provided tens of thousands of free delivery codes for orders in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Danang and Vinh Phuc.

In July 2021, the firm applied the same policy for all orders of groceries and fresh food costing VND50,000 and above each in HCMC. In addition, Lazada offered a 6% discount for orders worth at least VND150,000 each.

Its employees were also beneficiaries of its support during the pandemic. During the social distancing in the second and third quarters of last year, Lazada gave its employees food and food vouchers.
