HCMC – A Vietnam Airlines plane flying from Germany to HCMC made an emergency landing at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport in Azerbaijan to save a German passenger on October 7.
The 18-year-old passenger suffered health problems and received support from the crew, a doctor and a nurse on the flight. However, despite first aid, the passenger’s health condition did not improve.
Hence, the Vietnam Airlines’ Operations Management Board decided to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport Baku Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan, at 0:15 a.m. on October 7 (time in Vietnam) after four hours and 35 minutes of flying time.
The airline cooperated with the ground staff of the Baku Heyda Aliyev airport to support the passenger in immigration procedures and send him to the hospital as soon as possible.
At the same time, the airline discussed with the Baku Heyda Aliyev airport staff to accompany the passenger to the hospital and to update his health status. The airline also informed the German Embassy in Azerbaijan to assist the passenger.
After that, the plane continued its flight, taking off from Baku Heyda Aliyev airport to HCMC at 3:38 a.m. (time in Vietnam) on October 7. Due to the emergency landing, the flight was around three hours and 50 minutes behind schedule.
In 2019, a Vietnam Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan to save a two-year-old Japanese passenger after he suffered a high fever, convulsions and difficulty breathing.
