HCMC – Vietnam will not pursue economic growth at the expense of the environment, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition 2022 (GEFE 2022) in HCMC on November 28.
He said at the event, held by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham Vietnam), that Vietnam is oriented towards developing a green and circular economy, facilitating the process of energy transition and digital transformation, using natural resources efficiently, and combating climate change.
Vietnam is one of the five countries most vulnerable to global warming, so achieving a green economy transformation and carrying out COP26 commitments are the nation’s top priorities, he said.
With that in mind, Vietnam will focus on three main goals: deepening its friendship with the EU, building a people-oriented apparatus, and developing a socialist-oriented market economy.
During the course of achieving these goals, the human element is of paramount importance, so the country will not trade off its environmental health for economic growth, the prime minister said.
As European businesses and policymakers have expertise in green, sustainable industries and renewable energy development, Chinh said, adding he hoped they would join hands with the Vietnamese Government and businesses in this field.
PM Chinh said that the event would enable European businesses to bring green technologies to the country, thereby helping it to achieve its COP26 commitments and promote green economic development.
The event lasts three days, from November 28 to November 30.
