HCMC – Six people were dead at the scene and two died on the way to hospital when a 16-seat passenger bus collided with a tractor-trailer in the central province of Quang Nam at around 4 a.m. this morning, February 14.

While carrying 20 people, most of them patients, from Quang Ngai to Da Nang for medical examination and treatment, the Ford Transit minibus crashed into the tractor-trailer at the intersection of Vo Chi Cong Street and a road leading to Tam Hiep Port in Tan Hiep Commune, Nui Thanh District.

The minibus turned upside down, leaving six people dead at the scene. Two other people died when being taken to hospital, said Le Van Sinh, chairman of Nui Thanh District.

The other 12 passengers who were injured are receiving medical attention at Quang Nam General Hospital.

Traffic police cordoned off the accident scene for an investigation.

Data from the Department for Roads of Vietnam showed that the minibus and the tractor-trailer were moving at 69 kilometers per hour and 30 kilometers per hour, respectively, when the accident happened.

Ten seconds before the accident, they were traveling 73 kilometers per hour and 48 kilometers per hour, respectively.

The coastal areas from Quang Nam Province to Danang City were cloaked by dense fog early this morning. Vehicles were forced to have their lights on due to a visibility distance of just 5-7 meters.
