HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 12,663 new Covid-19 cases, including 12,619 domestic infections in 38 cities and provinces this evening, August 29, sending the country’s Covid-19 tally to 435,132.
Binh Duong reported the biggest number of new infections with 5,414, followed by HCMC with 4,957, and other southern localities such as Long An with 533, Dong Nai with 377, Tay Ninh with 234 and Tien Giang with 155.
Danang and An Giang detected 106 and 103 new cases, respectively, while other cities and provinces reported less than 100 new infections each.
The country has recorded 430,940 domestically transmitted Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic since April 27.
This afternoon, the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control confirmed 344 more Covid-19 deaths, taking the total to 10,749. The new deaths included 256 in HCMC, 31 in Binh Duong, 18 in Tien Giang and 13 in Long An. Ten other provinces reported one to five new fatalities each.
Up to now, more than 219,800 Covid-19 patients in the country have made a full recovery, including 8,813 people discharged from the hospital today. Meanwhile, there are currently over 6,300 critically ill Covid-19 patients.
HCMC remains the country’s biggest Covid-19 hotspot with more than 209,900 cases in the latest outbreak.
The city’s Union of Business Associations (HUBA) launched a medical program on August 28 to deliver 10,000 medication bags to Covid-19 patients undergoing home-based treatment.
According to HUBA, there are currently more than 73,000 Covid-19 patients undergoing home-based quarantine and treatment in the city. Many of them are poor workers and are facing difficulties in accessing medication.
By providing medication bags for Covid-19 patients undergoing home-based treatment, the program aims to help reduce the number of cases that get worse and need to be hospitalized, thus reducing the strain on overloaded Covid-19 treatment hospitals.
Each of the 10,000 medication bags contains face masks and six types of drugs along with detailed instructions on how to use the drugs.
HUBA president Chu Tien Dung said the medication bags will be transferred to member associations of HUBA from now until September 2. They will then be distributed to Covid-19 patients in worst affected areas in the city.
