HCMC – A magnitude-3 earthquake hit the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien yesterday, March 1, the Institute of Geophysics said.
The quake occurred at 23:24 p.m. yesterday in Tuan Giao District, Dien Bien Province, with a focal depth of around 10 kilometers,
It posed no disaster risk but most of the locals felt the tremor, which shook houses.
Currently, the Center for Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning under the Institute of Geophysics has been continuing to monitor the earthquake’s development.
This is the second earthquake to hit Dien Bien from the beginning of 2023 until now.
Previously, another magnitude-3.2 earthquake with a magnitude of occurred in the province on January 14, with a focal depth of around 10 kilometers. The tremor lasted 1-2 seconds.
In response to a string of earthquakes, the provincial government has required the relevant agencies to monitor and take measures to cope with the quakes in the province.
