HCMC – The Japanese Government has delivered medical equipment to four national hospitals in Vietnam via official development assistance (ODA) valued at over 1.9 billion yen.

The National Lung Hospital, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Danang C Hospital on April 18 took delivery of the medical equipment funded by the Japanese Government, cited the Vietnam News Agency.

According to Sasaki Shohei, the first secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, the project aims to support strengthening measures responding to infectious diseases, expressing his hope that the medical equipment would improve the quality of medical treatment at the above hospitals.

Dr. Dinh Van Luong said hospitals would effectively manage and use the medical equipment to benefit patients.

The funding was approved in 2021 by the Japanese Government under an agreement with the Ministry of Health to provide medical equipment for four Vietnamese national hospitals worth 1.9 billion yen using the Japanese Government’s ODA.

The project would supply necessary medical equipment to satisfy residents’ demands for medical checks, treatment and healthcare amid the unpredictable development of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, the project would help strengthen and expand the medical services of the four national hospitals, offering diversified healthcare services to residents.

Under the signed agreement, the Japanese Government would participate in medical device procurement bidding to provide 19 types of medical equipment to four national hospitals in three phases. The Japanese side has, to date, delivered and installed medical equipment, including defibrillators, blood gas analyzers, handheld ultrasound devices and intensive care unit hospital beds for the hospitals.
