HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with U.S. President Biden yesterday, May 20, on the sidelines of the expanded G7 Summit in Japan to discuss measures to enhance bilateral relations.
The two leaders agreed on several measures to beef up bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Speaking with PM Chinh, President Biden spoke highly of the positive outcome of his phone conversation with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in March as Trong proposed prioritizing economic, scientific, and technological cooperation as the central focus and driving force for their bilateral ties.
During the expanded G7 Summit, PM Chinh also met with his counterparts from Canada, Comoros, Germany, India, and the U.K., as well as leaders of G7 members and several international organizations.
PM Chinh called on those nations to keep promoting trade and investment cooperation in digital transformation, innovation, and circular economy.
The Vietnamese leader is currently attending the 49th expanded G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, as part of the G7 Summit held from May 19 to 22.
Vietnam is one of the two Southeast Asian countries invited to the summit this year, along with Indonesia. This is the third time Vietnam has been invited to an expanded G7 Summit and the second time at the invitation of Japan.
