Viettel’s non-stop CSR journey during Covid-19 pandemic

Must read

Military-run telecom giant Viettel Group is well-known for not only its effective performance but also its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The country’s biggest mobile service carrier has always been committed to responsibility for the community. These activities have been even enhanced during the Covid-19 pandemic as Viettel is aware that the country has been encountering multiple difficulties and the Government and the people need support from enterprises.

According to leaders of the group, its strong development is thanks to its customers–the community. Therefore, Viettel has paid much attention to community activities as a way to express its gratitude to the community and help the community have a better life.

Supporting the anti-Covid fight

On August 31, Viettel presented 46 4G wifi routers worth nearly VND150 million to 23 checkpoints of the Hanoi Police Department. Accordingly, each checkpoint received two wifi routers and 4G SIM cards to help local residents make health declarations quickly, thus preventing congestion at the checkpoints and reducing the risk of community transmission.

The company has also donated VND500 million to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi to help the capital city tackle the pandemic.

Besides Hanoi, Viettel has accompanied other localities in the fight against the pandemic. Last month, the group presented VND15.9 billion to cities and provinces to cope with the pandemic, with each locality receiving VND200 million to VND1 billion.

In HCMC, which is the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot, Viettel has installed more temporary wifi stations and provide pop-up wifi service vehicles and wifi routers for field hospitals and quarantine facilities. The group has also donated VND1 billion to the city.

In addition, Viettel has coordinated with the High Command of the Military Region 7 to offer 6,000 gift sets valued at VND3 billion to residents in six southern localities—HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Tay Ninh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau—from August 18 to September 3 to help them overcome difficulties triggered by the pandemic.

Of the total, 3,000 gift sets were given to residents in HCMC and Binh Duong, which have been heavily hit by the pandemic. Each gift set, valued at VND500,000, contained rice, eggs, dried fish, fish sauce, soy sauce and spices.

Moreover, Viettel has contributed VND450 billion to the Covid-19 vaccine fund.

Employees of the group have also made donations of VND19 billion to build a consultation center to serve the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Since the pandemic broke out last year, Viettel, with its strengths in technology, has proposed many important solutions to support the Government’s fight against the pandemic.

Specifically, Viettel has developed the remote medical examination and treatment system—Telehealth, which has been connected to 1,300 clinics nationwide; the Vietnamese Health (suc khoe Viet Nam) portal and app; an online health declaration app; a Covid-19 map; the e-health record; and the Covid-19 vaccine passport program.

The group has also installed nearly 4,000 security cameras in centralized quarantine centers in the north.

Viettel acting chairman and general director Le Dang Dung said as a leading firm in Vietnam, Viettel commits to contributing both technological solutions and money to help the Government win over the pandemic.

Giving a helping hand to underprivileged students

Under the “As I’m studious” program, Viettel has pledged more than 20,000 scholarships worth over VND40 billion to students in the 2021-2022 school year.

This is the eighth year the program has been held and the first year students will receive scholarships worth VND2 million each, double that in previous years.

The scholarships will be directly handed over to students in remote and coastal areas and islands in 48 cities and provinces across the country. In each commune, five primary students and five secondary students, who are facing difficulties but study hard and have yet to receive support, will receive the scholarships.

Viettel has worked with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Association for Learning Promotion to launch the program since 2014 and committed to conduct the program for 10 years. Over the past seven years, 170,000 scholarships valued at VND170 billion were presented to students through the program.

According to Viettel, a high number of students must quit school per year due to their living difficulties. Therefore, Viettel has launched the program to nurture these students’ learning dreams and call on the participation of other individuals and organizations.
