HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum yesterday, July 7, was hit by at least 12 earthquakes ranging in magnitudes from 2.5 to 4.2, reported the Institute of Geophysics.
The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.9, occurred at 9:31 a.m. at a depth of 8.1 kilometers. This was followed by 11 more quakes, all below magnitude 4.3, within the next nine hours.
The final earthquake struck the district at 7:56 p.m., with a focal depth of about 8.1 kilometers.
Since 2021, Kon Plong District has been regularly affected by hundreds of weak to mild earthquakes, ranging from magnitudes 2.4 to 4.7. In May alone, the area also experienced 10 earthquakes below magnitude 3.6.
The strongest earthquake in Kon Plong in the past century occurred on the afternoon of August 23, 2022, measuring magnitude 4.7.
