HCMC – Hon Ro fishing port in Nha Trang City of Khanh Hoa Province has resumed operations today, September 15, after over two months of suspension due to the impact of the latest coronavirus wave, said a local official.

To ensure compliance with Covid safety measures, the fishing port, the largest of its kind in the south-central region, will operate at 30% capacity, which will gradually be increased to 50%, according to Nguyen Trung Hieu, head of the management board of the port, reported Tuoi Tre newspaper.

The port’s management will conduct procedures to receive 20-25 fishing boats per day and make arrangements for a maximum of five to seven boats to dock at a time at the port. It will also allow 10 transport vehicles to enter the port to unload fishery products for consumption.

In addition, fishing boats can load fishery products onto trucks only at the port. The port will not allow them to organize on-site transactions as usual while fishing boats from other provinces will be banned from entering the port.

Fishing boats with a small capacity and less than 15 meters in length in the province will not be permitted to load and unload fishery products at the port. The port will also prohibit fishing boat repairs, fishing net sewing and passenger transport to and from the port.

Nearly 20 fishing boats in the province are conducting procedures and preparing to go out to sea to fish after the port reopened, Hieu added.

The reopening of the Hon Ro fishing port is expected to ease the overload of fishing boats and commodities facing Da Bac fishing port in the province’s Cam Ranh City, create favorable conditions for exporters in the verification of the origin of fishery materials and facilitate the circulation and production chain of fishery items, said a representative of the provincial Department of Agricultural and Rural Development.

Five Covid checkpoints will be set up at the Hon Ro fishing port and the neighboring areas. The port will also take other anti-virus measures to ensure safe operations, Hieu said.
