HCMC – A group of 11 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) supplying Samsung Electronics Vietnam will jointly purchase renewable electricity through power purchase agreements (PPAs), marking a new step in greening the company’s local supply chain.

To support the transition, the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) has announced that it will fully cover the cost of hiring energy consultants to help participating companies develop renewable energy strategies and implementation plans tailored to market conditions.

The joint purchasing model is expected to create economies of scale, enabling smaller suppliers to gain access to clean electricity at more competitive prices. The move is also expected to strengthen their competitiveness and help them meet increasingly stringent sustainability requirements in global markets.

Samsung Electronics has pledged to support the initiative by sharing data, expertise and best practices drawn from its successful adoption of renewable energy at large logistics hubs and manufacturing facilities overseas.

The information was released by KEXIM on June 3 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Parton Co., a representative of the group of 11 SMEs.

The initiative aims to strengthen environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices across Samsung’s global supply chain while deepening cooperation between international financial institutions and supplier companies operating in Vietnam. Industry experts said the collective procurement model offers a timely solution for SMEs that often face difficulties in securing long-term PPAs on their own because of limited financial resources and relatively low electricity demand.
