HCMC – The government of Hanoi held an inauguration ceremony this morning, August 30, for the phase-two Vinh Tuy Bridge, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in attendance.

The bridge project was completed and opened to traffic four months ahead of schedule, according to Duong Duc Tuan, vice chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The phase-two Vinh Tuy Bridge is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on the existing phase-one Vinh Tuy Bridge, improve traffic flow across the Red River’s two banks, and address the growing transportation needs in the city center.

PM Chinh said at the inauguration ceremony that the operation of the phase-two Vinh Tuy Bridge is a crucial step for Hanoi to initiate the construction of the Hong Ha and Me So Bridges in 2024.

With 3.5 kilometers in length and 19.25 meters in width, the phase-two Vinh Tuy Bridge required an investment of over VND2.5 trillion. It extends from the intersection of Tran Quang Khai-Nguyen Khoai-Minh Khai streets in Hai Ba Trung District to the intersection of Long Bien-Thach Ban streets in Long Bien District.

This new phase runs alongside the already existing Vinh Tuy Bridge phase one, which was completed in 2010. With the conclusion of the second phase, Vinh Tuy Bridge has become Hanoi’s widest bridge, boasting eight lanes for automobiles.
