Heavy rain triggers severe flooding in central provinces

HCMC – Heavy rain has caused severe flooding in central Vietnam, submerging many residential areas and roads under water, the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority said today (October 14).

Floods triggered by torrential rain have led to one person missing, hundreds of homes being under water, and thousands of residents being displaced in multiple central provinces.

A total of 471 homes have been flooded, with the majority of them in Danang, where 419 homes are affected. Furthermore, 2,466 people have been evacuated from their homes due to floods and landslides.

A thirteen-year-old named Thai Phong V. went missing in Ha Tinh Province after being swept away by floodwaters, and around 33.5 hectares of paddy crops were damaged.

Schools have been severely impacted, with all schools closed in Danang. In Hue, 578 schools have been forced to suspend operations, affecting 270,325 students. An additional 1,600 students in Quang Tri are also unable to attend school.

Roadways and bridges have been compromised, particularly in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces, where multiple areas are inundated, isolating villages.

Following a dike collapse in Quang Phuoc Commune in Hue, local military units mobilized 100 soldiers and civilians for immediate repairs. Rock-filled baskets were used to address the 100-meter-long breach.
