HCMC – The Indian Navy’s training ship, INS Sudarshini, made a port call in HCMC on October 18 for a three-day friendship visit to Vietnam’s southern metropolis.

This is the third visit by an Indian Navy ship to Vietnam this year.

The welcome ceremony was attended by Ngo Minh Chau, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya.

Chau said at the ceremony that the visit of the Sudarshini of the Indian Navy to Vietnam not only enhances cooperation between the naval forces of both nations but also strengthens ties between the governments and peoples of the two countries.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that defense cooperation is one of the key pillars of the two nations’ partnership.

The Indian foreign minister is in Vietnam to step up relations between the two countries, especially in the areas of defense and maritime relations.

The Indian Government is committed to promoting cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, from politics to economy, he said.

The INS Sudarshini is 54 meters long and 8.5 meters wide. Since being commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2012, the Sudarshini has undertaken numerous voyages to various foreign ports, establishing itself as one of the symbols of the Indian Navy in fostering friendship and maritime cooperation with different nations.
