HCMC – Vietnam’s 1,541-kilometer North-South high-speed railway project worth US$67.34 billion is expected to select a consultancy contractor for the feasibility study (FS) and front-end engineering design (FEED) in June as authorities push to meet the targeted construction timeline.

The information was announced at a roadshow held by the Ministry of Construction on May 15 to introduce the FS consultancy bidding package for the project.

The ministry said it supports the participation of leading global organizations and encourages joint ventures between international and domestic consultants to combine global expertise with technology transfer opportunities for Vietnamese engineers in modern electrified railway systems.

Under the approved plan, the railway will run through 15 provinces and cities, stretching from Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi to Thu Thiem Station in HCMC. The double-track line will use the standard 1,435-mm gauge and have a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Land clearance work, estimated to cost billions of U.S. dollars, will be separated into independent projects assigned to local authorities for implementation, with completion targeted by the fourth quarter of 2028.

To meet the timeline, the selection of the FS consultancy contractor is scheduled for June 2026. The consultancy is expected to complete the midterm FS report by June 2027, providing the basis for appraisal procedures before the entire railway enters the construction phase from the fourth quarter of 2028.
