HCMC – HCMC cannot continue strict anti-pandemic measures and must gradually relax restrictions to safely live with Covid-19 and help the economy recover, said secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen.
At a meeting on September 23 to review the fight against the pandemic in Thu Duc City from September 16 to 22, Nen asked Thu Duc City to come up with initiatives and pilot new management models for the new normal stage. It must anticipate possible issues when HCMC returns to the new normal while ensuring a comfortable life for locals, the local media reported.
Nguyen Van Hieu, secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee, said Thu Duc was developing plans to fight the pandemic and help the economy recover in specific phases. The city will determine a detailed roadmap and priority sectors to ease restrictions slowly and restart work on some projects.
Nen agreed with Thu Duc’s plans and asked the city to draw up an operation plan during the new normal and include jobs and accommodation for workers in its social welfare policies.
When workers are allowed to return to work, the pressure on the city will be eased. However, the reopening of activities must be safe. Thu Duc must review residential areas with a high population density and work out plans to call for investments in these areas.
On the same day, chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Le attended a meeting to review the anti-Covid effort in Cu Chi District. She asked the district to keep a close watch on the situation in the district to control the virus transmission and gradually resume business activities.
The district must also make a list of disadvantaged residents eligible for the third relief aid package.
In addition, Le asked the district to pay more attention to supporting poor students, children orphaned by Covid and those affected by the pandemic.
