HCMC – The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has requested the Ministry of Transport to declare a state of emergency for a section of the La Son-Hoa Lien expressway in Danang City in central Vietnam, citing rain-induced landslides.

Landslides have hit the expressway, with mud, soil and rocks cascading onto the road due to incessant rains between mid-October and early November.

A Directorate for Roads of Vietnam report identified critical areas, such as km42+730 to km42+800, where a 68-meter section of a retaining wall succumbed to landslides. Around 4,750 cubic meters of soil and rocks has been displaced on this section.

Further along, from km46+330 to km46+430, 80 meters of retaining wall collapsed under the landslides, releasing an estimated 18,500 cubic meters of debris onto the road and verge.

In response to the escalating crisis, Road Management Zone III has mobilized personnel, machinery, and equipment for immediate repair.

The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has called for a comprehensive review and decisive action to implement an emergency project focused on preventing, mitigating, and recovering from the consequences of this natural disaster on Ho Chi Minh Road.
