HCMC – Hanoi Vice Chairman Chu Xuan Dung this afternoon, September 27, signed a document to relax some social distancing measures in the city, including allowing residents to do exercise outdoors from tomorrow.

However, the city still bans the gathering of more than 10 people. The decision was made as the city has spent four days without new locally transmitted Covid-19 infections.

The city will also allow shopping centers, and fashion and cosmetic stores to reopen. However, eateries and coffee shops at shopping centers can only offer takeaway services.

The Hanoi City government asked businesses, service providers and residents to continue strictly complying with Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures of the Ministry of Health and the city, such as wearing face masks, using hand sanitizers, washing hands regularly and keeping a safe distance from each other.

The municipal Department of Health will work with the relevant agencies to conduct Covid-19 tests for people in high-risk areas once every two or three days.

On September 21, after two months of social distancing following the prime minister’s Directive No. 16, the city began imposing social distancing measures in accordance with Directive No. 15, which are less stringent as the Covid-safe situation has improved.

At present, the city has only 20 small quarters under lockdown and plans to lift the lockdown in its biggest Covid-19 cluster in Thanh Xuan Trung Ward, Thanh Xuan District, on September 29.

To date Hanoi has reported nearly 4,000 Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April.

As of September 26, the city had administered more than 6.8 million Covid-19 vaccine doses citywide. Over 1 million people in the city, representing some 17% of its population aged over 18, have received two doses.
